After graduating from Ogallala High School, Dennis spent three years on the football team at the University of Nebraska.  When it appeared that he would never get a chance to play much for the Cornhuskers, he transferred to Chadron State and became a star offensive guard for the Eagles.  Dennis started every game and never missed a down because of an injury the next two years. He was a two-time NAIA District 11 first-team choice, earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American as a junior in 1981 and was first-team All-American the next season. Only one other CSC football player had made the first-team prior to that. Coach Gary Richardson said Dennis, who at 6-2, 255 pounds was the largest player on the team, was very deserving of the honor. “He is a very intelligent player who is strong and has good quickness,” Richardson said. Dennis died in 2003 at age 43.
