Questions and Answers with Kyle McCarthy, a sophomore thrower from Aurora, Neb.
Q: What made you decide to do two sports in college?
A: I really enjoyed doing both football and track in high school, so I figured I would try them both out in college. I didn't want to regret not trying two sports in college.
Q: What is the biggest difference in preparing for track and field and football?
A: Preparing for track is a lot about just focusing on technique and working on my footwork for each event. Football takes all of the lifting, running and making sure I don't forget the plays so I don't get yelled at.
Q: How do you balance your classes with your athletic schedule?
A: I try to get all of my homework done as early in the week as possible so I don't have to worry about it when I'm gone for a meet. As soon as I'm done with everything in the afternoon it's homework for quite a while.
Q: How are you going to balance spring football with your track schedule?
A: It's going to get interesting on how we figure that out. Coach Long, Coach Baily, and I still are figuring all of that out. We have to make sure I don't go over the maximum hours in a week.
Q: What are your plans for the summer?
A: I am going back home and working on a farm again and finally enjoying free time and some time off of sports.
