Chadron State College Athletics

2015—Improved the Chadron State pole vault records to 15-9 indoors and 15-11 ¾ outdoors.  The latter mark was good for the silver medal at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Meet.  His indoor record was set at the South Dakota State Classic.
2014—Had bests of 15-3 ½ indoors and 15-11 ¼ outdoors and won both championships at the RMAC Meets.  The outdoor height was the CSC record.
2013—As a redshirt freshman, he had bests of 15-6 ½ indoors and 14-10 ¾ outdoors.  Early in the 2013 indoor season, Hoopes cleared 15-5 to claim the school record.  About a month later, Kolten Jelden, who had transferred to CSC for his senior season, went 15-7 to break Hoopes’ record.  Both Hoopes and Jelden went 15-6 ½ at the RMAC Indoor Meet, but Hoopes got the gold medal on fewer misses.  Hoopes was unable to complete the 2013 outdoor season because of a foot injury.
Before Chadron State:  He was a standout athlete at Niobrara County High in Lusk, earning all-state honors in football and winning the Class 2A pole vault championship twice with a career-best of 14-2 as a senior in 2008. He enrolled at Chadron State that fall, but did not compete in track and field.  He then spent two years on a Mormon Church mission before returning to CSC.
