Cory Hegwer was another of the Eagles’ defensive mainstays in the early 2000s. He saw limited time as a freshman but burst onto the scene as a sophomore when he had 27 total tackles, including nine for a loss, and three sacks. As a junior and senior, he was named to the RMAC’s All-Conference First Team and the Nebraska Division II First Team.
Hegwer, a native of Colorado Springs, had 19 tackles as a junior and 28 as a senior, but he was a big part of the CSC defense that led the conference in both scoring defense and yards per game. In addition to his defensive duties, Hegwer scored four touchdowns for the Eagles as a fullback.
He graduated from CSC in 2002 with a degree in criminal justice. Hegwer, who lived in Westminster as of 2019, has worked for the Denver Police Department since 2005 and in 2016 he was promoted to Detective. He and his wife Anna, who attended CSC, have two sons, Griffin and Carter, and one daughter, Chloe.
