Deron Dolfi came from Pennsylvania and competed in the javelin the four years he attended Chadron State. That was his only track and field event and he made the most of it. His best marks rank first, third, fourth, and fifth on the Eagles’ all-time javelin throw list.

He won the NAIA District 11 championship three times and was the runner-up once. He also placed at the NAIA National Meet three times, finishing 8th, 3rd and 6th to gain All-American honors all three years. The third-place finish was the highest by a Chadron State athlete at the national meet at that time.

He also won first in the javelin at seven other meets during his three-years with the Eagles.

Possessing an outgoing personality, Dolfi was well-known on campus. One of his activities was being the public address announcer at basketball games.

An honor student, he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1989 and his master’s degree in 1993, both from CSC.

After teaching and coaching in Rushville, Dolfi was an assistant middle school principal and high school principal at Alliance for a decade before he and his wife, the former Kelli Moses, who also earned both of her degrees at CSC, moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was the assistant principal at St. James High, a public school with an enrollment of 1,700.

Dolfi died of cancer in 2019.
