Don Watt, a native of Upton, Wyoming, has officially been Chadron State College’s athletic trainer since 1994, but he has been prescribing ice and ibuprofen at the school for much longer than that.
With the assistance of coaches, Watt was the Eagles’ primary athletic trainer for five years before graduating in 1980.
Watt then earned his master’s degree from Central Missouri State University in 1981, and returned to CSC for a one-year internship.
Watt began his career as a full-fledged athletic trainer at Jenks High School in Oklahoma, which had 21 varsity sports and won 28 state championships during his seven year tenure.
In 1993-94, he was the trainer at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. He liked it there, but when he was offered the opportunity to “come home” he quickly accepted it.
He’s been at CSC ever since and has worked countless hours. In addition, Watt is a professor who teaches safety, first aid and prevention of injury courses.
Watt’s wife, the former Jana Epp, is a native of Hastings and a CSC alum.
They have two grown children, Danielle and Jeff, and six granddaughters.
