A native of Hay Springs, Jeff Turman was a four-year starting linebacker at CSC. The Eagles led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in both total defense and scoring defense each of those seasons and they won or shared three conference championships.
During his career, Turman participated in 285 tackles, including 177 that were unassisted. His tackles included 19 quarterback sacks for 161 negative yards. He also recovered eight fumbles and had 20 pass hurries. He was the team’s leading tackler in 1999 and 2000.
He earned first or second team all-conference honors all four seasons and was a three-time RMAC all-academic honoree. He also was placed on the NCAA Division II All-Nebraska Team as a junior and senior.
His teammates voted him the Eagles’ outstanding defensive player his senior season in 2001.
Although he required major knee surgery once, had his knee scoped in the middle of the season another time and had shoulder surgery twice after seasons were over, he never missed a down because of an injury.
After being the coordinator of the Activity Center at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton for 16 years, Jeff became the sports and recreation manager of the Nelson Physical Activity Center at Chadron State this fall. He and his wife, Steph, have two daughters Jacey and Rylee.
