Jim has been a staunch supporter of CSC and its athletic program for many years. He had never seen a football or basketball game when he came off the farm to attend Chadron Prep in 1932, but he was a standout in both sports by the time he graduated. He played offensive guard and linebacker for the CSC football team in 1937, ’39 and ’40. His defensive play was a major factor in the Eagles’ 12-9 win over the University of Wyoming in 1940. He also lettered in basketball at CSC in 1939-40 and 1940-41, when the Eagles were 16-4 and 15-3, respectively. He graduated from CSC in 1947, was the Dawes County sheriff 1950-58 and a Chadron elementary school principal for 22 years. At age 91, he is the senior-most person ever inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jim and his late wife Donna had five sons.
