Big Jim excelled in both football and golf for the Eagles in the late 1960s. Besides playing tackle, he was the punter for the football team. His 80-yard punt against Kearney State in 1965 is still tied for the longest in Chadron State history.
In 1967, Hogeland won the NAIA District 11 golf championship. He later was the runner-up at the Nebraska Amateur Golf Tournament.
He has helped manage the family’s grocery business in Alma, Neb., since graduating in 1970.
