When Joel Duffield graduated from Chadron State in 2006, he had the school records indoors and outdoors in both the 200 and 400 meters. He still possesses the records in the 400 indoors (47.22), and the 200 (20.82) and the 400 (45.92) outdoors. The latter time also is the RMAC record. He capped the 2006 indoor season by winning the silver medal in the 400 at the NCAA II National Indoor Meet in Boston. His record-setting time in the 400 meters at the RMAC Outdoor Meet was the fastest in NCAA Division II that season and qualified him for the USA Nationals in Indianapolis. The former Morrill Lion was voted the RMAC’s Male Track Athlete of the Year in 2006, and he was a Second-Team Academic All-American. He and his family reside in Mitchell, and he is employed by Chimney Rock Public Power.
