Kory Richardson became a starting defensive tackle midway through his freshman year and started the remainder of his career. Although smaller than many defensive tackles, he was one of the scrappiest.

When he concluded his career in the fall of 1998, he had participated in 120 tackles, including 81 that were unassisted, and was credited with 10.5 sacks and 12 other tackles for minus yardage.

He was placed on the Nebraska NCAA D-II first-team by the Omaha World- Herald as a senior in 1998 and earned second-team all-RMAC honors as a junior and was a first-team selection as a senior.

The Eagles led the RMAC in total defense, rushing defense and scoring defense in both 1996 and ’98 and were second in each of those categories in 1997.

A native of Ainsworth, Richardson was both strong and quick. In the spring of his senior year during weight training for football, Richardson bench pressed 405 pounds and set the hang-clean record of 365 pounds. The latter record stood until the spring of 2015 when current CSC defensive end Tyler Kiess broke it.

Richardson has two children, Aspen and Brody. He has coached Brody’s teams in football, baseball and hockey in Gillette, Wyo., where he is the manager of Homax Oil, a firm owned by the family of former teammate, Kevin Homer.
