Mustangs upend Eagles in four sets

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Western New Mexico's Angelina Pulu had 16 kills and 19 digs to lead the Mustangs to a 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Friday evening at Drag's Court.
 
The Eagles, now 3-15 overall and 1-8 in the RMAC, will play at New Mexico Highlands today (Saturday). First serve is set for 4 p.m. Black Hills State swept New Mexico Highlands (6-14, 2-8 RMAC) on Friday.
 
While Pulu had a team-high 16 kills and 19 digs, she received plenty of help. Ziona Verhulsdonk  had 14 kills and had just four hitting errors and   Heather Rux added 12 more kills and three blocks.
 
As a team, Western New Mexico (9-11, 6-4 RMAC) hit .232 and weathered 16 ties and eight lead changes, including seven in the third set, to earn its eighth-straight victory over Chadron State.
 
Erika Roybal paced the Eagles' offense with 13 kills and Mallory Irvine had 11 kills six block assists. Mollie Jones also chipped in seven more kills but no other Eagle attackers had a hitting percentage above .100 and CSC hit .087 as a team.
 
Also for Chadron State, Kristina Harter finished with a match-high 23 digs and Jessica Jester served two aces.
