CSC volleyball team rallies against Minot State

Harter named to all-tourney team

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Chadron State College volleyball team earned its first win of the 2012 season Saturday by rallying for a four set victory against Minot State (20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21).

In the Eagles' first match, Black Hills state claimed a 16-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-16 victory.

Following the tournament, Chadron State libero Kristina Harter was placed on the All-Tournament Team. In four matches, she had 61 total digs and averaged over four digs per set.

Against the Beavers, the Eagles shrugged off a poor hitting first set with a dominant second one, hitting .250 as a team. Chadron State continued its crisp offense in the third set by hitting .188 and managed to hit .150 for the match.

Four CSC attackers had at least seven kills, led by Mallory Irvine's nine. Irvine had a hitting percentage of .538 and added three blocks.

Jessica Jester chipped in eight kills and had a team-high five blocks, and Erika Roybal and Mollie Jones each had seven kills apiece. Roybal also added 12 digs.

Alyssa Bauer ran a majority of the offense and had 18 set assists, while Justine Ackie had 10.

Defensively, Harter had 20 digs and Bauer had 12 more.

Black Hills State's three-pronged attack of Meghan Sipe, Amy O'Neill and Caitlin Templeton combined for 44 kills to lead the Yellow Jackets to their victory over CSC.

Sipe had a match-high 16, while O'Neill and Templeton each had 14.

Black Hills State hit .259 as a team, while limiting Chadron State to .097.

Roybal and Irvine led the Chadron State offense again, finishing with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

Ackie had 16 set assists and Michaela Schmitt added 15.

Also for CSC, Roybal finished with a team-high 18 digs and Harter had 16.
