Eagles fall in four tough sets to nationally-ranked Rangers

DENVER - The Chadron State College volleyball team put together one of its strongest performances of the season but it wasn't enough to overcome Regis Saturday in Denver.
 
The Rangers, now 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, hit .271 as a team and received 22 kills from Katie Klein and 20 more from Caitie Breaux to turn back the Eagles, 27-25, 27-25, 24-26, 25-18.
 
Also efficient for Regis was senior Caitlin McDonnell, who had 12 kills and only one error in 26 attacks for a .423 percentage.
 
Several Eagles nearly kept pace. Mallory Irvine had 19 kills and just four errors in 41 attempts for a .366 hitting figure.
 
Sophomore Erika Roybal chipped in 13 kills and had only three errors in 37 attempts for a .270 figure. Also, Jessica Jester and Mollie Jones each had nine kills and combined for just five hitting infractions.
 
Overall, Regis hit .271 and the Eagles a season-best .225.
 
Libero Kristina Harter led CSC with 19 digs, Jones had 18 and Roybal 16.
 
Both CSC setters also performed well. Justine Ackie tallied 29 set assists, while Alyssa Bauer handed out 21 more.
 
Regis, which entered the weekend at 25th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, is now 7-4 for the season and 2-0 in the RMAC.  The Eagles are 2-8 and 0-2.
 
CSC will play at Black Hills State on Tuesday night. Regis topped the Yellow Jackets 25-18, 26-24, 25-17 at home on Friday night.
