Box Score Box Score

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Jessica Jester and Mallory Irvine each had 13 kills and Erika Roybal added 11 more to help propel the Chadron State College volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Black Hills State Tuesday evening in the Young Center.

It was the first RMAC victory for the Eagles (3-8, 1-2 RMAC) since Sept. 17, 2010.

“The girls are pretty excited to get this win and this is a great starting point for us,” interim head coach Janel Baily said. “Of course, we're thrilled to get our first conference win, but we want more, and we hope to build on this the remainder of the season."

Although the Eagles earned the outcome in four sets, the match was tight throughout, featuring 24 ties and 10 lead changes. However, Chadron State hit .209 as a team, while limiting the Yellow Jackets to a hitting percentage of .137.

The Eagles dominated in the first two sets, though, compiling hitting percentages of .414 and .458. Both are season bests.

Irvine, who herself hit .290, combined with Lexi Hoagland to create an intimidating presence at the net as both players finished with five blocks.

In addition to the strong blocking, CSC's defense was stellar. Libero Kristina Harter had a match-high 17 digs. Mollie Jones, who had eight kills, added 12 digs, and Roybal had 10 more.

Also for Chadron State, Ashley Bargen had eight digs and served two aces, Justine Ackie had 27 set assists and Alyssa Bauer chipped in 20.

The Eagles will play at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday.
