UCCS nips Chadron State in four sets

CHADRON – The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs started slow but rallied to win the final three sets to trump Chadron State, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 Saturday evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
 
Chadron State, now 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC, had a team hitting percentage of .433 in its opening set victory but the Mountain Lions, who recorded 18 total blocks in the match, turned up the pressure in the final three.
 
UCCS (9-3, 4-0 RMAC) forced the Eagles to have a negative hitting percentage in two of the final three sets while hitting over .200.  
 
Nikki Kinzer paced the Mountain Lions with 15 kills and assisted six blocks.
 
Kim Catlett had 12 more kills and both Megan Koop and Amanda Bloom had eight apiece.
 
Despite the loss, Chadron State received some solid performances. Mallory Irvine led the Eagles with 12 kills (.276 hitting percentage) and had seven total blocks. Jessica Jester had nine kills, Mollie Jones finished with eight kills and 10 digs and Erika Roybal had seven kills.
 
Also for Chadron State, Kristina Harter had a match-high 26 digs, while Alyssa Bauer added 14 more and 15 set assists.
 
Justine Ackie had 23 set assists and also added two kills.
 
The Eagles will play at Wayne State Tuesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
