Chadron State hosting games this weekend

CHADRON – After a tough trip to New Mexico, the Chadron State College men's basketball team will host Colorado State University-Pueblo and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at Armstrong Gymnasium Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles and ThunderWolves will tangle Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday's game with UCCS also starts at 8.

The Pueblo men are 6-11 for the season and 5-6 in the RMAC. Their top scorer is Matt Rosenbaum, a 6-foot-7 native of Sidney who played at Eastern Wyoming for two years before transferring.

Rosenbaum is averaging 11.7 points. He loves to shoot 3-pointers, and has nailed 39 percent from behind the arc so far for the ThunderWolves.

Arden Dean, a 6-1 senior, is next on the scoring list for Pueblo. He's averaging 11.2 points. Three more Wolves are averaging about nine points a game.

The Colorado Springs men are young and have struggled. They are 2-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference. The victories have been over Western New Mexico and Western State.

Derrick White, a freshman guard, leads the team with a 16.7 scoring average. Darius Pardner, a sophomore guard, is next at 10.7 while another freshman, Alex Welsch, is averaging 10.2.

Zac Bargen, a junior from Chadron, leads the Eagles in scoring at 18.9 points a game. That's also the top scoring mark in the conference.

The Eagles could receive a boost in their lineup this weekend with the expected return of Grant Stone, who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury. He is the Eagles' second-leading scorer at 10.8 points a game.
