Top-ranked Metro men, Regis visiting CSC

CHADRON – The Chadron State College men's basketball team will host top-ranked Metro State on Friday and Regis University Saturday in a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Both games will begin at 8 p.m.
 
The Metro State men are 17-0 and ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II. The Roadrunners are outscoring their opponents by an 81.6 to 60.9-point margin and have played just two close games, a 71-65 victory over Fort Lewis on Jan. 19 and a 75-70 win over Western State last Saturday night.
 
The Roadrunners bested the Eagles 82-50 in Denver on Dec. 16, but CSC was without the services of leading scorer Zac Bargen, who was out with an ankle injury.
 
Bargen is tied for the lead among RMAC men in scoring at 18.4 points a game and is second in free throw shooting, sinking 91 of 108 shots for 84.3 percent.
 
Four Roadrunners are averaging in double-figures, led by 5-foot-9 guard Brandon Jefferson, who is shooting 52.5 percent from the field while averaging 16.8 points.
 
Two more guards, Mitch McCarron and Demetrius Miller, are averaging 14.3 points while the team's big man, 6-8 Jonathan Morse, is averaging 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds.
 
The Regis men are 5-11 for the season and 4-9 in the conference. The Eagles got their only victory of the season, 71-62, when they played the Rangers on Dec. 15.
 
Jarrett Green, a 6-1 junior, is pacing Regis in scoring at 11.7 points a game.
