New Mexico Highlands outlasts CSC in five sets

Box Score CHADRON – Darian Mullen had 21 kills and the New Mexico Highlands volleyball team outlasted the Eagles in a five set Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference thriller (25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-10) Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Gymnasium.
 
It was the second-straight victory in five sets for the Cowgirls (10-10, 4-7 RMAC) but it wasn't easy.
 
Chadron State, now 3-16 overall, won the second and third set in convincing fashion but the Cowgirls hit .235 in their fourth set victory and withstood three lead changes in the final set to earn the win.
 
Mullen led all attackers with 21 kills but she received help as Jazmine Harge added 10 more and Bailey Weidner finished with nine. Weidner also served two aces and had 13 digs.
 
Despite the loss, the Eagles played well. Five players finished with double-digit digs and nine had at least one kill.
 
Erika Roybal paced the offense with nine kills and Alia Brennan added eight more and hit a team-high .278. Jessica Jester have five kills and assisted on seven blocks, while Barbie DeCent had seven kills and five block assists.
 
Both of CSC's primary setters also played well. Justine Ackie had 16 set assists and 14 digs and Mariah Conyers added eight. Conyers also had 10 digs, three kills and served a match-high three aces.
