No. 19 Mines upends CSC in four sets

Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Melanie Wannamaker had 21 kills to lead No. 19-ranked Colorado School of Mines volleyball team to a 25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 25-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Saturday.

Wannamaker hit .633 while racking up a match-high 21 kills but she received plenty of help. Alanna Winfield added 15 kills and Sarah Pekarek chipped in 13 more to help the Orediggers move to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Eight of the nine Chadron State players who saw time on the court contributed offensively. That was especially the case in the second set when the Eagles (3-11, 0-6 RMAC) hit .278 and battled through 10 ties and three lead changes to earn a 26-24 win.

However, the Eagles weren't able to keep their momentum going and Mines clipped them in a tight third set before cruising to their victory in the fourth.

Jessica Jester led CSC with 12 kills. Barbie DeCent added 11 and Justine Ackie had 30 set assists and a team-high 19 digs.

Chadron State will be back in action Tuesday in a non-conference match at South Dakota School of Mines.
