Mines outlasts CSC in four sets

Box Score CHADRON – Colorado School of Mines' Alanna Winfield and Melanie Wannamaker each had 14 kills and the 15th-ranked Orediggers took down a feisty Chadron State team 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 15-22 Friday night in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
 
Chadron State will host Colorado Christian in its final home match tonight (Saturday). First serve is set for 5 p.m.
 
Things started out well for the Eagles, now 4-20 overall and 1-13 in the conference, on Friday when they earned a gritty 25-22 win in the first set after hitting .170. However, the Orediggers out hits CSC the rest of the way and rallied to win the final three sets while improving to 19-4 and 13-1 in the conference.
 
The match was close throughout and featured 18 ties and seven lead changes.
 
Winfield and Wannamaker did much of the offensive damage for the Orediggers but they also received 11 kills from Sarah Pekarek and 46 set assists from setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood.
 
Despite the setback, the Eagles played well. Barbie DeCent had 13 kills and a career-high 28 digs and Erika Roybal chipped in 12 kills and four blocks.
 
Other steady performers for Chadron State were Alia Brennan with eight kills and six blocks, Jessica Jester with five kills and three aces and setter Justine Ackie with 32 set assists.
