CHADRON – Both Chadron State College basketball teams will be in action Thursday night. The CSC women will be at home against Wayne State and the men's team will visit Grace University in Omaha.

The women's game will start at 6 p.m. in Armstrong Gymnasium. The CSC women are 0-1 after losing to Missouri Western 59-38 last Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph. The Wayne State women are 1-0 following a 105-41 triumph over Peru State at home Saturday evening.

Five Wildcats scored in double figures against Peru State, led by 5-11 forward Jordan Spencer with 26 points. Spencer scored 23 during an 85-47 triumph over Chadron State last New Year's Eve in Wayne.

Chadron State's game with the Grace Royals will be the first ever between teams from those schools.

The CSC men won their season opener 89-76 at Dickinson State in North Dakota last Friday evening. The Eagles shot 53.6 percent from the field. Senior forward
Grant Stone led the way by making seven of 11 field goal shots, including five of seven from 3-point range while finishing with 20 points.

Grace has a 1-5 record after losing to the Concordia Bulldogs in Seward 87-72 Tuesday night. Three of the Royals' previous losses have been by seven or fewer points. Lance Evans, a 6-3 senior, led Grace with 19 points and 6-1 sophomore Hakeem Stewart added 17, including a 10 of 12 performance from the free throw line. However, Stewart and the other two starting guards combined to shoot just seven of 41 from the field.

The CSC women also will play at Montana State-Billings at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Billings won 79-64 in Chadron last season, largely on the strength of a 19-24 performance from the free throw line while the Eagles were just four of six. The Yellowjackets' Bobbi Knudsen, a 5-8 senior, poured in 30 points and has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Preseason Player of the Year for 2013-14.

The Yellowjackets opened the season by going 1-2 during a classic in Anaheim, Calif., on Nov. 8-10. Pittsburg State of Kansas won 77-71 and the University of Indianapolis took an 87-45 decision before the Yellowjackets downed Cal State East Bay 77-73.

Kayleen Goggins, a 6-1 junior, leads the Montana team with a 15.7-point average after the three games while Knudsen is averaging 13.7.         Â

Both Wayne State and MSU-Billings had 17-10 records last season.
