Big second half lifts Roadrunners over Eagles

Box Score CHADRON – Four Metro State players scored in double figures as the sixth-ranked Roadrunners earned an 83-71 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Saturday at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Mitch McCarron led all scorers with 24 points and added a game-high nine boards but the junior guard received plenty of help. Brandon Jefferson scored 14 points, Will Sinclair finished with 12 and Nicholas Kay chipped in 10 as the Roadrunners, who shot over 50 percent for the game, improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the RMAC.

Chadron State, now 5-5 and 2-4 in the RMAC, led 37-34 at halftime but after the Eagles' Zac Bargen hit a trey to open the second half the Roadrunners went on a 13-0 scoring burst to and they maintained a double-digit lead for a remainder of the game.

The Eagles shot a season-high 57 percent from the field (25 for 44) from the field and sank 10 of 17 3-point attempts but Metro State scored 19 points off 15 CSC turnovers. The Roadrunners also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds to score 11 second-chance points and made 15 of 22 foul shots.

A big reason the Eagles shot so well from long range was the shooting of Evan Brooks, who hit all six of 3-pointers to finish with 18 points. Kendrick Holliman scored 12 points off the bench and David Downey finished with nine.

Also for CSC, Josiah Lee scored eigh points and had a team-high six rebounds.
