Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. - For the second straight match, the Chadron State College volleyball team earned a hard fought victory over William Jewell.
The Eagles, who defeated the Cardinals last week in four sets at the UNK Tournament, got the Colorado State University-Pueblo Invitational off to a good start by upending William Jewell in a come-from-behind five set rally Friday at Massari Arena (25-27, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, 15-10).
The Eagles, now 3-3, fell to in-state rival Wayne State in three sets in the nightcap.
Five Chadron State players had at least nine kills in its thrilling win.
Erika Roybal paced CSC with 10 kills but
Nikki Schmidt,
Alia Brennan,
Jessica Jester and
Hanna Flaming each finished with nine apiece.
Jester and Brennan each had six blocks and
Justine Ackie served four aces and had 29 set assists. Ackie also provided solid defense, tallying 17 digs, while
Alyssa Bauer had a team-high 20.
In the second match, eighth-ranked Wayne State earned a 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 win.
The Wildcats hit .196 as a team and forced the Eagles to commit 17 attack errors.
Schmidt led Chadron State with six kills and 10 set assists.
Brennan continued her strong play at the net, tallying two blocks.
Chadron State will play Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood today (Saturday).
