CHADRON – The Chadron State College volleyball team will open its home schedule this weekend by hosting two outstanding Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, both from Denver.
Â
Metro State will visit Friday night and Regis will follow Saturday night. Both matches begin at 6 p.m. Family Day introductions will be made prior to the Saturday night match.
Â
Entering this week's play, Metro is 4-4 for the season and Regis is 4-5 while playing some tough competition. Despite their losing record, the Regis Rangers are ranked 23
rd in the latest American Volleyball Association poll.
Â
Regis was rated first among the 14 RMAC teams in the coaches' preseason poll after going 26-9 last season. Metro got the No. 2 nod after posting an 18-11 record a year ago.
Â
The Rangers' Sage Martinson, a 5-10 senior libero, was picked as the conference's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches.
Â
The Eagles will enter this weekend contests with a 3-5 record. They defeated William Jewell College of Missouri in five hectic sets to open play in the Colorado State-Pueblo Tournament last weekend, but dropped the next three matches there.
Â
CSC coach Janel Baily said her team must open its matches with more vigor. The Eagles lost the first two sets in all four matches last weekend. She was proud that the team rallied to win the next three sets over William Jewell and take the victory. CSC also beat two more Missouri teams, Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood, in the third sets in Pueblo, but lost the fourth sets to absorb the losses.
