Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University-Pueblo's Nathan Tigner flirted with a triple double and the ThunderWolves made a 15-point halftime lead stand up in their 94-88 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Friday.
Tigner, a 5-foot-10 senior point guard, made six of seven field goals and 11 of 12 from the foul line while scoring a game-high 24 points. He also added nine assists and grabbed nine rebounds to propel Pueblo (9-7, 7-5 RMAC).
Three other ThunderWolves joined Tigner in double figures. Julian Caldwell scored 20 points and seven rebounds, Devonte Malcolm scored 17 and Matt Rosenbaum had 11.
Pueblo opened its big first half lead after shooting nearly 70 percent from the floor. The ThunderWolves, who led by as many as 17 points in the opening frame, hit 18 of 26 shots, including seven of 10 from beyond the arc.
The Eagles, now 7-9 overall and 4-8 in the conference, shot well in the first half – they made 14 of 33 attempts and five treys – but they didn't have an answer for Pueblo's streaky shooting until the second half. In the final 20 minutes, Chadron State outscored the ThunderWolves 49-40 but never got within five points.
Four players scored in double figures for the Eagles.
Grant Stone scored a season-high 21 points,
David Downey had 17,
Kyle Vinich chipped in 12 and
Kendrick Holliman finished with 11. Both Downey and Stone led CSC in rebounds with six apiece.
Both teams shot well from the field. Chadron State made 31 of 63 (49 percent), while Pueblo hit 28 of 51 (55 percent). Pueblo also owned the edge in 3-pointers (12) and foul shots (26 of 35).
Chadron State will play at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
