Box Score DENVER – Nicholas Kay and Mitch McCarron combined to score 30 of Metro State's 41 points in the second half to lead the third-ranked Roadrunners to a 73-56 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Friday evening.
Kay, who led Metro State with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds, scored 16 points in the second half, and McCarron scored 14 as the Roadrunners (17-1, 14-0 RMAC) won their 14th consecutive game. For the game, the two natives of Australia combined to make 14 of 25 field goals and grabbed 12 rebounds. McCarron, who scored 18, also had a game-high five steals.
Metro State led 32-24 at halftime but opened the second half on a 14-2 scoring run. The Eagles didn't give up, though, and outscored Metro 18-6 to cut the deficit to 57-51 with six minutes to play.
After trading buckets, Metro put the game away from a McCarron 3-pointer and the Roadrunners outscored CSC 13-2 in the final four and a half minutes.
Christopher Smith made six of eight field goals and led the Eagles with 15 points.
Zac Bargen made three 3-pointers and added 13 points and five rebounds and
Kendrick Holliman sank seven of nine foul shots and added a field goal to finish with nine points.
For the game, Metro State shot over 55 percent (26 of 47) while limiting the Eagles to 37 percent (19 of 51).
The Eagles will play at Regis Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
