Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Alana Winfield had 14 kills to lead No. 11-ranked Colorado School of Mines who is now 16-2 overall with a 9-1 conference record, to a 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College.
Despite the loss, Chadron State, (3-15 overall 2-8 RMAC) had some bright spots. In the third set, Chadron State tied things up set six times and owned the lead twice early on. Midway through, CSC closed the gap to bring the score to 15-14, but Mines went on an 8-1 run to close out the match.
Defense at the net was key for both squads as both teams finished with seven. Chadron State's
Alia Brennan and
Alexis Farrisled the Eagles with four blocks apeice.
The setters played well as both teams had six different players finish with kills. Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood closed out the night with 42 assists for Mines, while CSC's
Shelby Gardner had 25.
Winfield led all competitors with 14 kills. Ellie Monarch and Peterson both contributed eight kills to Mines' fight. ReigningRMAC Defensive Player of the Week Taryn Huber was the lone competitor with double-digit digs at 14.
Gardner spread the ball well amongst her teammates as five Eagles finished with more than four kills. Brennan had a team-high six kills and
Hanna Flaming and Farris finished with five.
Also for CSC, Lelalelei Nomura and Erika Roybal chipped in four kills apiece.
Chadron State College returns in action Tuesday night when the team travels to Spearfish, South Dakota to take on Black Hills State University at 7 p.m.
