Colorado Christian sweeps Chadron State

CHADRON – Chadron State College fell to Colorado Christian University Friday evening in a three set Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match. The Cougars, now 13-8 and 6-5 in RMAC play, defeated the Eagles 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20.
 
CSC, now 3-17 overall and 2-10 in conference, played well with the fifth-ranked team in the conference, keeping every set close. There were 24 ties and six lead changes throughout the entire match.
 
In the first set, Chadron State and Colorado Christian were tied at 16, but the Cougars went on a 7-0 run to end the set. CSC climbed back in the second set, but CCU finished it off with one of its two service aces on the night. In the final set, Colorado Christian took advantage of CSC errors to take the win.
 
Colorado Christian setter Jordan Kessler, who had 10 digs, distributed the ball well, finishing with a match-high 38 assists. Marnie McIlraith and Kaylee Pierce combined for 31 total kills
 
Defensively, CCU had four players record double digit digs, led by libero Joelle LeFevre's 17. Taylor Sturms had a match-high six block assists, while RMAC blocks leader Angela Jurek added five.
 
Chadron State's Erika Roybal and Alia Brennan kept the match close, finishing the night with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Both  hit over .300 and added three blocks up front.
 
Alexis Farris and Alyssa Bauer led the back row with 14 digs each, while setter Justine Ackie, who had 29 asssists, chipped in 10 digs.
 
Chadron State College will host Black Hills State University Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m.
