RAPID CITY, S.D.—Freshman guard Travis Schock scored 19 points and three teammates also reached double digits as South Dakota Mines defeated cold-shooting Chadron State 69-55 in a men's non-conference basketball game here Friday night.
Â
The Hardrockers led all the way. They scored the final five points of the first half to build a 30-22 intermission lead.
Â
Chadron State made a game of it during the first eight minutes of the second half. A layup by senior guard Chris Smith cut the difference to 45-42 with 8:42 remaining.
Â
But Mines scored 11 of the next 12 points to take command. The Eagles were forced to foul down the stretch. While the Hardrockers made just nine of 16 free throws in the last 2:38, it was enough to maintain a double-figure lead.

Â
Smith was 9 of 14 from the field to account for half of Chadron State's field goals and was three of seven from long range.Â
Kendrick Holliman added 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, but he was among the Eagles who struggled with their shooting.
Â
