CHADRON –
Evan Brooks scored 20 points, including 18 in the second half, to help lead the Chadron State College men's basketball team to a 73-57 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Western State Saturday at the Chicoine Center.
Â
Brooks had just two points in the first half when the Eagles (3-3, 2-0 RMAC) and Western State (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) played to a 28-28 tie, but the senior guard erupted for 18 points and didn't miss a shot in the final 20 minutes. He hit all four of his 3-point attempts, four free throws and added a breakaway dunk to put the Mountaineers away late in the second half.
Â
Also for CSC,
Kendrick Holliman scored 16 points,
Jay Feltson added seven and six rebounds and
Davante McCallam finished with five points and seven boards.
Â
Chadron State and Western State both shot poorly from the field in the opening half – CSC hit 37 percent and Western connected on 33 percent – but the Eagles pulled away in the second half with
Christopher Smith and
Josiah Lee running the show. Smith scored eight points but dished out four assists and Lee had three assists and three steals that led to fast break buckets en route to the win.
Â
Point guard Mason Biddle led Western State with 19 points and Alex Eddy scored 10 off the bench.
