Box Score CHADRON – Derek White scored a game-high 24 points and 10 other University of Colorado-Colorado Springs players scored in the Mountain Lions' 90-84 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Friday at Armstrong Gymnasium.
With the win, UCCS improves to 17-6 overall and 14-5 in the conference. Chadron State, which will host CSU-Pueblo Saturday at 7:30 p.m., falls to 10-14 and 7-13 in the league.
White notched 19 of his 24 points in the second half and added eight rebounds and three assists. He did much of his damage from the foul line, sinking 10 of 14 attempts.
Three others joined him in double figures. Alex Welsh and Darius Pardner each scored 12 points and Dalton Patten added 10.
The Mountain Lions made over 53 percent of their shots (30 of 56) and led the entire contest, while Chadron State hit 38 percent from the floor (28 of 73).
The Eagles had a hard time getting their offense started – they opened the game one of 16 from the field – but got things going and made nine of their next 10 field goals to trail UCCS 48-36 at the half.
Chadron State opened the second half strongly, eventually cutting the Mountain Lions' lead to 56-54 after a pair of free throws from
Brandon Pippenger with 13 minutes to play, but UCCS went on a quick 14-2 run and maintained a double-digit lead for a majority of the game.
Four Eagles scored in double figures and two others had at least eight points.
Kendrick Holliman paced CSC with 19 points, five rebounds and three blocks,
Josiah Lee added 11 points and seven assists,
Zac Bargen finished with 11 points and a team-high seven boards and
Grant Stone scored 10 points off the bench.
Chadron State forced UCCS to commit 22 turnovers but the Eagles managed to only score 17 points following them. Meanwhile, Chadron State committed 12 turnovers and UCCS turned that into 18 points.
The Eagles also finished with 14 offensive rebounds that they turned into 15 points.
