ThunderWolves thwart Eagles

Box Score CHADRON – Five Colorado State University-Pueblo players scored in double figures and the ThunderWolves shot over 52 percent from the field en route to their 84-70 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Saturday at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Julian Caldwell scored a game-high 20 points to pace Pueblo (14-10, 12-8 RMAC) but the ThunderWolves had balanced scoring. Nathan Tigner scored 15 points, Tyrone Marshal added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Devonte Malcolm had 14 points and Sidney native Matt Rosenbaum chipped in 11.

The Eagles (10-15, 7-14 RMAC) played a spirited first half and led 26-18 with nine minutes remaining but the ThunderWolves closed the half out on 25-5 scoring run to take a 43-31 advantage into halftime.

Chadron State cut Pueblo's lead to 52-49 midway through the second frame but Malcolm nailed a 3-pointer and had a dunk on the next possession following a CSC turnover and the ThunderWolves were never threated again.

Ten Chadron State players scored, led by Grant Stone's 13 points and five rebounds. Both Zac Bargen and David Downey scored 11 points, Christopher Smith added eight and Evan Brooks scored seven.

The Eagles shot 35 percent from the field (22 of 62), while Pueblo sank 27 of 51 (53 percent). For the second night in a row, Chadron State forced more turnovers (13) than it committed (11) but the Eagles only scored nine points off the miscues.
