GUNNISON, COLO – Chadron State College got its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory for the 2014 season against Western State Colorado University in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 on Friday.

It was the first three set victory in RMAC play for the Eagles since 2010.

The Eagles (2-8, 1-1) had one of their best matches of the year, hitting .205 as a team and finishing with seven total blocks to beat the Mountaineers.

The combined efforts of
Lelalelei Nomura and
Erika Roybal led the Eagles to victory. Both had eight kills on the night, and Roybal led the team with a hitting percentage of .467.

CSC's defense held WSCU to a hitting percentage of .036 behind Nomura's five blocks and
Alia Brennan's four.
Brittany Oddo also added in 13 digs to help the Eagles' defense.

Also for Chadron State, freshmen
Shelby Gardner and
Alexis Farris stepped up big in the win. Gardner provided 25 assists for the team, while Farris had seven kills.

Western put up a fight, but couldn't stop the Eagles' hitting, ending the night with only one total team block. Crystal Powell and Makenna Christ led the Mountaineers with seven kills apiece.

Chadron State College finishes its three match road trip in Grand Junction, Colorado, Saturday night against Colorado Mesa University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
