GUNNISON, COLO – Chadron State College got its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory for the 2014 season against Western State Colorado University in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 on Friday.

It was the first three set victory in RMAC play for the Eagles since 2010.

The Eagles (2-8, 1-1) had one of their best matches of the year, hitting .205 as a team and finishing with seven total blocks to beat the Mountaineers.

CSC's defense held WSCU to a hitting percentage of .036 behind Nomura's five blocks and Alia Brennan's four. Brittany Oddo also added in 13 digs to help the Eagles' defense.

Also for Chadron State, freshmen Shelby Gardner and Alexis Farris stepped up big in the win. Gardner provided 25 assists for the team, while Farris had seven kills.

Western put up a fight, but couldn't stop the Eagles' hitting, ending the night with only one total team block. Crystal Powell and Makenna Christ led the Mountaineers with seven kills apiece.
