CHADRON – The 19th-ranked Colorado Mesa University team won six of 10 matches in its dual with Chadron State College en route to its 24-12 victory Thursday at the Nelson Physical Activity Center.

It was the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual for the Eagles. They'll compete at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Dual Tournament Saturday before hosting CSU-Pueblo Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, Mesa never trailed. Colby Christensen opened things up for the Mavericks with an 11-2 major decision at 125 pounds but Chadron State's
Taylor Summers answered with a 6-1 decision at 133 pounds.

Following that match, Colorado Mesa won three in a row before the Eagles responded with three of their own wins.
Chance Helmick started things off when he earned a 5-2 decision over Jesse Hoffschneider at 165.
Caleb Copeland then added a 7-4 decision over Randy Boerner at 174 and
Dylan Fors earned a hard-fought 6-3 decision at 184.

Following the Eagles' three decisions, Chadron State trailed Mesa 17-12 in the dual but the Mavericks closed out the match with a major decision at 197 and a decision at 285 to claim victory.
Prior to the dual, the Chadron State College wrestlers honored 10 CSC faculty and staff members.
