CHADRON – The Chadron State College women's basketball team suffered a 72-58 loss to Colorado State University of Pueblo in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup
Friday at the Chicoine Center.
Chadron State (4-12, 4-8 RMAC) returns to action
Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
During
Friday's game, the ThunderWolves jumped out to a strong 8-1 lead early in the first half, but the Eagles pounded their way back into the game behind center
Maka Daysh. Midway through the half, Daysh scored two baskets while being fouled to bring the game back to even at 20-20. Following the tie, CSU-Pueblo's Katie Nehf took command and scored six of the team's 13 points to close out the half up, 33-27.
Following halftime, the Eagles couldn't close the game and trailed by as much as 15 in the second half.
Nehf did much of the damage for Pueblo, scoring 20 points, half of which came from the line. Three other ThunderWolves – Angie Moore, Ana Gurau and Dee Arrieta - scored 10 points.
Defensively, Ashley Piper, who scored nine points, commanded the boards with seven rebounds and five steals, while Nehf disrupted the Eagles' offense with seven steals.
The Eagles were led by Daysh who scored 14 points and had six boards.
Stephanie Knowles hit five of eight from the field and had a game-high seven rebounds, five assists and 11 points. Senior
Kate Simonton also scored 10.
