South Dakota Mines volleyball team rallies past Chadron State

Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D.— October 10, 2015 — Five South Dakota Mines players finished in double figures in kills Saturday afternoon as the Hardrockers won the final two sets to defeat Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match in the King Center in Rapid City.

The first three sets were tight before Mines sealed the victory with some room to spare. The Hardrockers won the first clash 27-25, the Eagles took the next two 25-21 and 27-25 before the hosts prevailed 25-17 and 15-11 to take the verdict.

Mines is now 5-13 for the season and 2-7 in the RMAC. Chadron State is 4-12 and 3-5.

Jena Kreuzer and Kayla Henrichs each had 13 kills to lead Mines. Anna Breidt added 12 and both Mikkella Reese and Emily Newton chipped in 11. Reese also had a match-high 32 digs.

Chadron State senior Lelalelei Nomura paced her team with 19 kills and had just seven hitting errors in 41 attacks for a .293 hitting percentage, the best by either team's primary hitters. Varela with 15 was the only CSC player to post double digits kills. She also participated in the four blocks.

Both teams have freshman setters from Colorado. Mines' Elizabeth Jensen of Aurora, Colorado, finished with 48 set assists. The Eagles' Madison Webb of Loveland had 42.

Chadron State will visit Regis University in Denver on Tuesday night and be home this coming weekend against Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian.
