No. 21 Orediggers rally to 3-1 victory

CHADRON, Neb. - October 16, 2015 - No. 21-ranked Colorado School of Mines outhit Chadron State tonight to win in four sets (29-31, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24) at Chicoine Center.

After the Eagles persevered through a 60-point first frame to go up 1-0, the visiting Orediggers kept offensive pressure on the home team while CSC only managed a .140 hitting percentage through the final three sets.

Leading Colorado Mines with a game-high 19 kills was Megan Peterson. Setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood delivered 54 assists to propel the victors who hit at a superb rate of .295 on the evening.

Rudy Leasau and Sina Mauga put up a decent effort at the net, blocking five shots apiece to lead Chadron State. Leasau finished with a team-best 14 total points.

Just as they did in their previous three matches, all on the road, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead, only to fall prey to a comeback by the opponent.

Colorado Mines stalked CSC in set one, but did not lead until a run of five points made it 22-20 Orediggers. At 29-29, a block by Mauga and Varela took the advantage for the Eagles, before a CSM error ended the set at 31-29.

Set two belonged to the Orediggers all the way. After an early 11-3 run, the Eagles never came closer than three points in the set.

CSC controlled the third stanza for most of the way, but down 18-16, Colorado Mines turned it around, closing out a 9-1 fast break with an ace by Chandler Glass.

The Eagles once again appeared to be in control of the fourth set, but the Orediggers proved their mettle in tough spots and rallied from down 23-20 to end the match.

Chadron State once again takes home court tomorrow, October 17, versus Colorado Christian at 7 p.m.
