KEARNEY, Neb. -- November 18, 2015 -- Chadron State College men's basketball lost their season opener on the road to the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers by a score of 84-66 tonight. The Eagles start the season with an 0-1 record while the Lopers improve to 2-1.

CSC got 49 of its 66 points off the bench tonight, while Kearney scored all but 12 points with their starting five.

UNK's Ethan Brozek had a game-high 29 points, while the team's leading scorer Connor Beranek poured in 22.

For the Eagles, newcomer Warren Gordon, a guard from Indianapolis, led the team with 17 points. He was the only Eagle player in double digits.

Guards Justyn Anderson and Billy Johnson each put in nine points. Anderson added three assists, with only one turnover,

Center Jay Feltson added eight points, and had the most boards for the Eagles with seven on the night.

Turnovers plagued Chadron State, with UNK benefitting greatly. The Lopers scored 30 points off of 17 CSC miscues, compared with only 11 points for CSC on 11 Kearney turnovers..

The Eagles' Davante McCallum scored the first two points in the game, before UNK put up 16 unanswered points in the first quarter. Six of Chadron's 17 turnovers were committed during that span. Those 16 points proved to be the difference in the game's final score.

CSC was never able to tie or retake the lead in the game. Kearney led by as many as 26 points.

The Eagles open the home schedule at Chicoine Center on Sunday, November 22, against Dickinson State at 2 p.m., before a Monday evening meeting with Montana State-Northern at 7 p.m.
