Chadron State storms past Colorado Christian

CHADRON – Four Chadron State College seniors combined to score 62 points and the Eagles avenged an earlier season loss with an 82-69 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Colorado Christian Friday at the Chicoine Center.

Kendrick Holliman and Evan Brooks both scored 19 and Josiah Lee and Christopher Smith each poured in 12 to lead the Eagles to their seventh victory this season.

Both teams were red hot in the first half. Colorado Christian shot 56 percent from the field and Chadron State netted 57 percent. The Cougars (12-12, 9-9 RMAC) and Eagles were also on point from long range. CCU hit six of 12 long range attempts and CSC made seven of 12.

In the back and forth first half, Brooks, who made four of six treys, led CSC with 12 points and the Eagles owned a 40-38 lead. In the second half, Colorado Christian wrestled the lead back and had a 57-53 advantage with 11:54 to play. But the Eagles responded with a pair of foul shots from Lee, who had six assists, and Brooks canned a 3-pointer and a jumper before Smith nailed a trey to cap off a 13-4 scoring run.

Chadron State increased its lead to as many as 10 points and took their biggest lead of the game at 82-68 when Holliman, who had a team-high seven rebounds, hammered home a thunderous dunk.

In addition to the four in double figures, five other CSC players scored. Matt Reader and Roderick Butler scored five apiece and Michael Safer, another senior, and Davante McCallam both scored four.

Andrew Squiers led Colorado Christian with 16 points. Tyler Shields added 12 points and eight boards.
