LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The New Mexico Highlands University wrestling team won seven of 10 matches en route to its 22-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual victory over Chadron State College Thursday.
Â
The Eagles, now 7-8 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC, will wrestle at Adams State Friday.
Â
Chadron State controlled things early during Thursday's dual but Highlands responded by winning six of the last seven weight classes to claim the dual.
Â
The Eagles got on the board early following a 13-7 decision from
Robert Ozuna at 125 pounds and led Highlands 6-3 after
Zack Denney earned a hard-fought 3-2 decision at 141. However, the Cowboys won three decisions in a row – none were by more than three points – before Chadron State's
Caleb Copeland cruised to a 14-6 major decision at 174.
Â
Chadron State then dropped two more close decisions – 6-4 at 184 pounds and 6-3 at 197 – before Highlands wrapped things up with a major decision at heavyweight.
Â
The two squads also split two exhibition matches. Josh Miller won 8-3 at 133 pounds and
Taylor Pownall fell at 174.
