Rangers outhit Eagles at home

CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team suffered two losses to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference leader Regis University Friday afternoon. The Rangers won the first game 5-1 and shutout the Eagles in the second game, 4-0. The two teams finish their series Saturday with the first pitch set for 11 am.

The Eagles started off the day well, working leadoff hitter Courtney Lecher around the bases to allow Casey Polk to drive her in with a single down the left line. Chadron State held its lead through the first three innings, allowing just one hit.

In the top of the fourth, Regis reached on back-to-back hits by Emily John and Carlie Sexton. Two batter later, Taylor Wilcox, who was three-for-three hitting, slammed a home run to center field, taking the lead 3-1.

The Rangers would drive in two more runs in the top of the fifth off of an error and a single by Johns, who had three hits in four at bats. Chadron State was unable to finish off runs, leaving eight batters on base throughout the game.

In the second game, the Rangers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead following an RBI groundout by Sexton. The Rangers scored twice in the fourth and once in the sixth to finish the game, 4-0. Errors plagued the Eagles, who committed four errors.

RMAC wins leader Nicole Aviles struck out eight batters en route to her 14th win of the season. Eagles' pitcher Tayler Hall, 8-9 on the season, struck out six batters and allowed four earned runs.
