Eagles fall short at home

The Chadron State Eagles came up short on Saturday night as they hosted the Grizzlies of Adams State University in the Chicoine Center. The Eagles fell to the Grizzlies 3-1.

It was the second RMAC game of the season for the Eagles. After winning in three straight sets on Friday evening "the team played flat tonight" said Coach Chris Wells following the game.

The Eagles lost the first set 26-24 after a tough back and forth battle. The second set saw the Eagles hit on all cylinders though as they exploded for a 25-13 victory. The Eagles appeared to be ready to continue the winning ways but Adams State fought for each point in a 26-24 set victory in set 3. The fourth and what proved to be final set saw the Grizzlies defeat the Eagles 25-13.

Junior Rudy Leasau finished the night with 13 kills and sophomore Gaby Valera had 11 for the Eagles.

As a team the Eagles had 26 block assists compared to the Grizzlies 10. The Grizzlies won in the dig category 69-62.

Coach Chris Wells said after the game that he "saw a lot of positives even in the loss, our girls played tough and for each other".

The Eagles will next play at RMAC opponent Colorado Mesa on Friday, September 25th. The Eagles next home match will be on October 2nd at 7pm against Colorado State University-Pueblo in the Chicoine Center.
