CSC volleyball team plays at Mesa and Westminster

After splitting its first two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches at home last weekend, the Chadron State College volleyball team will head west this week, playing at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction on Friday night and at Westminster College in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

This will be the first time a CSC team has met Westminster in any sport since the Griffins joined the conference.

The Eagles played extra well last Friday night while sweeping past Fort Lewis in three sets. It was the first volleyball match in the Chicoine Center, CSC's spectacular new gym.

Hopes were high that the Eagles could win both matches, but Adams State posted a pair of hard-fought 26-24 victories en route to a three-to-one victory.

"We weren't as sharp Saturday night as we were the first night," said CSC coach Chris Wells.  "We're still having some ups and down and a few growing pains.  But we're getting better.  We just need to become more consistent."

Mesa is 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC this season.  The Mavericks edged both Metro State and Colorado-Colorado Springs in five sets on the road last weekend.  They won the RMAC championship with a 17-1 record and finished 29-4 overall.

Westminster is Mesa's travel partner and fell to both of the same teams in three sets last week. The Griffins are now 3-7 for the season.
