CHADRON, Neb. — January 2, 2016 — The Chadron State College women's basketball team opened the New Year with a 69-50 victory over Western State during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles led by just 29-28 at halftime, but outscored the Mountaineers 25-10 in the third period to take charge.
Senior guard
Emma Block scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Eagles. In addition, sophomore center
Maka Daysh scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Seniors
Allegria Chisom and
Stephanie Knowles added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Knowles also had seven steals, five rebounds and four assists.
The Eagles are now 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the RMAC. Western falls to 3-5 and 1-5.
Chadron State shot 44.2 percent from the field while Western State hit just 33.9 percent. The Eagles also were 18 of 28 from the free throw line compared to the Mountaineers' seven of 12.
Carra Jackson-Brown led Western with 13 points. Kaylynn Busch added 11.
The Eagles will host Colorado State-Pueblo at 1 p.m. today. The Thunderwolves had their 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon by Regis 58-56 in Denver.
