CHADRON, Neb. -- October 12, 2016 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team will host a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches this weekend with Fort Lewis College and Adams State University visiting Chicoine Center on Friday and Saturday evening, respectively.
Friday night's match, which will be broadcast locally on 97.5 FM, brings the FLC Skyhawks to Chadron for the third consecutive time in the series.
In the teams' 2015 meeting, CSC swept Fort Lewis behind 10 kills apiece from
Rudy Leasau and Lelaleilei Nomura. The pair were pushed by a season-best eight kills from
Alexis Farris, who led all CSC hitters with a .412 hitting percentage.
One thing the Skyhawks (4-12, 3-5 RMAC) do well is scoring on the serve, dropping 1.61 aces per set to lead the conference. Senior Skyhawk libero Ally Dell'Amico is a big part of that trend, with 0.32 aces per set, and she is also fifth in the league at 4.98 digs per set.
Fort Lewis enters the match Friday night on the heels of two consecutive losses in Denver, falling 0-3 to No. 18 Colorado Mines and 2-3 to Colorado Christian.
Saturday night has been dubbed "Dig Pink Night" by the CSC team as they host Adams State. The Eagles will raise funds for breast cancer research and youth programs by selling tee-shirts and accepting donations. All profits from the tee-shirt sales go to the Side-Out Foundation, a non-profit organization which teams with volleyball communities to fight breast cancer.
In addition, Chadron Primary School will visit Saturday night for a poster contest. Posters created by local elementary school children will be featured at the game, and a contest winner will be announced at the third set intermission.
Adams State was victorious last season in Chadron, as CSC rallied in both sets one and three, to force extended play in each, but lost 3-1.
This year, the Grizzlies (9-8, 4-4 RMAC) began the season 9-5 with wins over UCCS and Western State, who they are currently tied with in the conference standings. They have lost their last three matches, however, all against top-six opponents.
Both Fort Lewis and Adams State are crucial swing matches for the conference standings, as CSC sits one match behind ASU and is tied with FLC at 3-5, on the edges of postseason contention.
Both contests are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
