GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- February 12, 2016 -- Three Chadron State College wrestlers won their dual bouts Friday night at Colorado Mesa University. However some toss-up weight classes fell the Mavericks' way, as CSC fell 30-10 at Brownson Arena.
Taylor Summers was the biggest winner for the Eagles, getting a 20-7 major decision at 133 pounds over Thomas Tawata. He recorded nine takedowns in the match, coming just a couple shy of a tech fall.
At 174,
Caleb Copeland scored a 5-4 win over Preseason All-Conference wrestler Randy Boerner. Entering the third period tied 3-3, Copeland took the bottom position and reversed the returning All-American, getting the one point win after a riding bonus for Boerner.
Cooper Cogdill, at heavyweight, went to 9-6 in advance of NCAA Regionals, defeating the 11-4 Khyre Burns of Colorado Mesa. In his 4-0 decision, all of his points cam after the second intermission, as he escaped and got a takedown, then held on to win a riding point. Burns is a fellow undersized redshirt freshman, having won his bracket at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open last weekend in Golden, Colorado.
The CSC grapplers return to the mat tomorrow night at 7 p.m., taking on the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University.
