GUNNISON, Colo. -- February 13, 2016 -- No. 13 Western State Colorado University took 6 of 10 matches in front of a home Senior Night crowd, shaving off a 22-16 dual match victory over the Chadron State College wrestling team.
Brandon Kile held the Mountaineers to three points in the opening weight class at 125, after giving up a first period fall to Ronald Wardleigh at the RMAC Championships two weeks prior.
Taylor summers followed with his second major decision in as many nights, getting the 13-4 verdict over Zane Rich.
Joshua Miller played defense at 141, losing the match 9-2 but keeping RMAC Champion Corbin Bennetts out of bonus points.
Chadron State closed the match to 15-13, getting a six-point fall from
Chance Helmick over Travis Bradford at 165, and a 4-1 decision from
Caleb Copeland at 174. Helmick's pin was only the third against Bradford in 35 bouts this season.
Cooper Cogdill's 3-0 win at heavyweight couldn't make up the Eagles' deficit, however, as the Mountaineers prevailed 22-16.
CSC will have nearly two weeks, without competing, before they return to Gunnison for the NCAA Super Region 4 Championships, to determine the NCAA qualifiers. The top four wrestlers in each weight class at Super Regionals advance to NCAA Championships, held this year in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, March 11-12.
