CLEARWATER, Fla. -- February 5, 2016 -- Chadron State College splt a pair of extra inning games in Florida today, losing 4-2 to Saint Leo University and defeating Lynn University 5-4 in the nightcap.
The Eagles allowed only five earned runs in both games combined.
Against Saint Leo, CSC faced the returning NCAA Division II ERA leader in Alana Tabel, yet managed seven hits against her. Juniors
Courtney Lecher and
Zoe Humphries each went 2-of-4 in the batter's box. Lecher and fellow junior Becca Prokaski each earned one RBI.
Cierra Cosslett went the distance for a complete game on the mound.
After four scoreless innings, Saint Leo got the first run on the board after a passed ball allowed a runner to third, who was then sac flied home.
The Eagles finally had an answer in the seventh, stringing together three straight base hits.
Taylor Bauer singled, and
Rebekah Anthony doubled, leaving Lecher to drive in the tying run.
In the eighth, however, the Lions put together three runs and CSC could manage only a soltary run in the bottom of the inning to close it to 4-2.
In their evening game, the Eagles fared better and overcame a 3-0 deficit after three innings to force extra innings, where they got a timely hit from
Lindsey Karlin to put them over the top. Karlin hit 4-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI.

Kinsley Mason pitched four shutout innings to earn the first win of the season for the Eagles, who play two more games tomorrow.
Both games will carry live stat coverage. CSC plays tourney host Eckerd College at 11 a.m. Eastern, and Barry University at 4 p.m.local time.
