ALAMOSA, Colo. -- March 20, 2016 -- Chadron State College softball (18-14-1, 12-8 RMAC) won their four-game series with Adams State University (11-20, 9-10 RMAC) this weekend, 3-1, marking the third time this season in three tries that they have come away from the weekend 3-1 against a single opponent.
It was the first time since program revival in 2007 that the Eagles have won a four-game series' against three different Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents in the same season, after previously going 3-1 at Regis University and also against Western New Mexico University at home. Even more impressively, all three opponents would be RMAC Tournament qualifiers, if the season ended today.
In Sunday's games, CSC split 1-1, winning a 7-2 decision in the 11:00 a.m. matchup, and falling 5-0 in the afternoon.
Tayler Hall was in the circle for the win, going all seven innings with 10 strikeouts versus only two walks, and allowed only one earned run. She scattered seven hits over as many innings, leaving runners on base five times.
Aspen Eubanks and
Shea Graham drove in the tying and go-ahead runs, in the second and fourth innings, respectively. Both players hit RBI doubles to give the Eagles the lead. In the fifth, a
Rebekah Anthony solo homer sparked a big five-run inning that gave the Eagles a comfortable margin which Hall was able to successfully hold onto.
Lindsey Karlin was 3-for-3 with one walk in the win, and Graham went 2-for-4 with three RBI on two doubles.
In the afternoon contest, Grizzly ace Lauren Murphy went six innings with a no-hitter, before two Eagles finally reached base safely in the seventh. However, they could never quite string together enough offense to score, dropping their final game in Alamosa 5-0.
The remainder of the Eagles' schedule has them playing 16 games on their home field, and only four away games, which are in Spearfish, South Dakota, just a couple of hours away. In addition, the remaining opponents on CSC's schedule are a combined 49-85 (.366) overall as of this writing, versus a combined 320-250-2 (.561) for the opponents already faced.
Because of the upcoming Easter weekend, the Eagles will host their next games, versus New Mexico Highlands University (8-21, 5-15 RMAC) on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26. Friday's doubleheader will begin at noon, while the action Saturday will begin at 11 a.m.
